Testing Omnia 2 LCD

The LCD Test is a program that is inside the Windows Folder but you will not find it on your Programs Page. So many users do not know its existence unless you navigate to the Windows Folder. We can going to show you how GOOD LCD Test is on your Omnia 2.

Omnia 2(i8000) users can press the *#0*# and access the LCD Test Application. If it does not work on your Omnia 2, try to navigate to the LCD Test Application Folder.

LCD Test Application
Go to the Windows Folder and select the LCD Test Exe File. Pls ensure you go the Menu and set to show all files. Most file explorer do not show all files by default.

Press the RED, GREEN and BLUE buttons allowed you the check the screen for any dead pixels.
Press the CIFcam to test the front camera.
Press the Megacam to test the camera and the LED light
Press the Compass to get which direction you are at
Plus many other functions to test your Omnia

Assign different sms tones for individual contacts

Many of you would like to assign different sms tones for each of your contact or category. You will not be able to do it with the default Window Mobile Software. But there is a third party software that will help you to achieve this. 

The application is call MortRing. Many users have said the interface is not nice but it still do the job nicely. Moreover it is a freeware and you can post your question at XDA Developers if you have any queries.

Note: It may not work on some devices which has more than 500 contacts and you will just heard the default ring tone.

Mobile Tracker on Omnia 2

Mobile tracker is a feature inside the Samsung Omnia 2 that sends you a message when your phone is turned on or the SIM card has been changed.

You set a telephone number of another mobile phone to which a text message will be sent. As well as your own message, the IMEI number of your phone is included. This can then be passed to your operator, the UK police or even Samsung Mobile who will have the phone barred.

Activate Mobile Tracker
To enable the Mobile tracker feature, you go to Settings - Security(Basic settings) - Mobile Tracker where you turn the feature on. If you are accessing the Mobile Tracker for the first time, you will need to enter the password twice. You will need to enter a password every time in order to access the Configuration Screen. You choose an entry from the Phonebook on the Phone as the recipient of the message and complete the message section. Once this has been done, select Done and the feature is enabled.

Change Mobile Tracker Password
You can also change the password of the Mobile Tracker as when you like. You just need to ensure you store a backup copy of the password somewhere else just in case you forgotten it.

Resetting Mobile Tracker Password
Please store your password at a safe location just in case you forget the password for the Mobile Tracker. Hard Reset the phone and the Mobile Tracker will still remember the password you use initially for activating this application.

Many second hand owners Omnia 2 who has bought it from the first hand seller or 2nd hand reseller were not able to use the Mobile Tracker if the first owner has activate the Mobile Tracker. They must obtain the password from the first owner of Omnia 2 or they will not be able to use the application.

Hard Reset of Omnia 2 also allow the Mobile Tracker to retain the password. It is known to hide in some memory area which is not affected by hard reset or upgrade of the ROM.

The only way is to use Brute Force and that is by trying the Password from 0000 to 9999 but will take u a lot of time. Let's hope Samsung can rectify this bug in their future ROM upgrade. Another bug which the Samsung Developer has missed out.

Garmin Mobile XT for Omnia 2

Garmin is one of the best GPS Navigator used by many drivers around the world. Their software is much better than MapKing or AGIS for Singapore and Malaysia.

Step 1: installing Garmin

1. Download Garmin Mobile XT to your computer.
2. Connect to Active Sync
3. Install the Garmin Mobile XT from your computer

Garmin Mobile XT Installer is normally a exe file and therefore must be install from your computer via Active Sync.

Step 2: KeyGen to unlock Garmin

1. Open Garmin XT on Omnia 2
2. Launch Garmin, go to Settings -> About (Make note of your UNLOCK ESN .WRITE IT SOMEWHERE.THIS IS YOUR UNIT ID)
3. Launch the Garmin keygen (u can find it), and type in your "UNIT ID" in the bar
4. Hit the first generate button to generate device unlock key.
5. Copy this code to a new.txt file. Then save
6. Rename the .txt file to sw.unl (be carefully not txt extension but unl)
7. Put sw.unl file inside Garmin folder and restart Garmin (Now on Garmin will recognize your inbuilt gps)

Please skip Step 2 if you have purchased or owned a Garmin Mobile XT copy.

Step 3: Installing Map

1. ONLY three names are available so as to be recognized by Garmin: gmapprom.img, gmapsupp.img or gmapsup2.img. (Gmapbmap.img is the base map of whole world so don't use this name except if you don't want a base map). So use one of these names for the maps. So only three different named maps can be used at the same time.
2. Copy .img file to Garmin Folder

Step 4 :Unlock Map

You need to unlock the map in order for you to use on Garmin Mobile XT. If you do not unlock it, Garmin Mobile XT will not recognize the map. You can either use KeyGen or purchase a copy at the Garmin Store. The step I am writing is for Singapore users but overseas users may use it as long you can obtain your country map and the map unlock code.

Singapore Users can obtain the Singapore Map from MalSing and use it on your Garmin Mobile XT.

PIM Backup for Omnia 2

There are some Omnia Users who do not have Outlook and therefore is unable to backup their contacts, task, appointments and others. If you do not synchronise or backup, you will lose all contacts whenever you update your Omnia Firmware.
