Samsung Omnia 2 Launch in Singapore

Samsung Omnia 2 has been launch in Singapore, been one of the latest country to get the gadget. We are launching this new blog after warm reception we got for Samsung Omnia. This is the latest Window Mobile Phone from Samsung. The i8000 is still using the Window Mobile 6.1 but it is upgradeable to Window Mobile 6.5

Marketplace Apps and Games

Marketplace is the official applications store for the Window Mobile Phone. This is the first place where most window mobile users will go. But prepare for some disappointment.

Costs
The applications and games are more expensive than the one you find in the Apple App Store. The applications and games are lesser in the marketplace and more expensive in the marketplace. 

Apps & Games
I recommend you just download the free games and apps for your Window Mobile Phone. The paid games and apps are not worth the money. Some games and apps cost 3 to 5 times of that in the App Store for the same product.

Registry Editor for Omnia 2

Soft Reset on Omnia 2

Many Samsung Omnia 2 users does not know where is the soft reset hole on Omnia 2. If your manual is one of the earliest batch, Samsung have show you the wrong way to poke the hole and you may even end up damaging the antenna.

The manual has already been update by Samsung but some Omnia 2 users may still be using the old hard copy manual.

Soft Reset Omnia 2,i8000

• Open the Battery Cover of Omnia 2. The reset button is the golden hole between the SIM Card and the Micro SD Card. Use a toothpick or any small tip to press the button and the Omnia 2 will soft reset.

Chinese Input On Samsung Omnia 2

Samsung Omnia 2 users who have bought their phone in Singapore which are on firmware 6.5 will all have the chinese input on their Omnia 2. All our oversea customers who have bought the phone through us also will have the chinese input on Your Omnia 2 as your firmware is Version 6.5 for all Omnia 2 sold after Jan 2010.

Samsung Singapore has embedded the chinese input software, PlumKeypad & MoAKey on the Singapore Firmware. Singapore Unique Firmware gives u not one but two chinese input software for free.

If yours phone is not bought in Singapore and you like to have Chinese Input on Omnia 2, you can try out the following Chinese Input 3rd Party Software.

Chinese Fonts on Samsung Omnia 2

Samsung Omnia 2 users who have bought the phone in Singapore will be able to view chinese fonts already. If you have made your purchase outside of Singapore or on online site like Ebay, the Omnia 2 may not come with the Chinese Fonts installed.

This is the similar case if you have not bought your phone in Korea, you will also not get the Korean Font. However you can install the chinese font cab file on your Omnia 2 to display Chinese Font.

Enable Omnia 2 Front Camera to take Photo

I have found a way to enable the front camera of Omnia 2 to take photos by editing the registry.

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Samsung\Camera
Create new Dword: SupportFrontCamera=1
where 1 is in decimal

You may use Resco Registry or any Registry Editor u have on your Omnia 2.

You will notice in the camera software there is an additional choice for self portrait photos, choosing this mode will enable you to take photo using the front camera.

Start camera
Go to "Shooting mode" (second left icon from the top)
Select "Self"
and you have your front camera (640 x 480)

Camera Does not Work after Tweak
If after applying the tweak and the camera isn't working anymore, all you have to do is change the HKCU/Software/Samsung/Camera "shooting mode" registry key to 0 after deleting the front camera registry tweak.

It works on WM 6.5 and Custom Roms for Omnia 2(i8000). This doesn't work on Verizon i920.

Testing Omnia 2 LCD

The LCD Test is a program that is inside the Windows Folder but you will not find it on your Programs Page. So many users do not know its existence unless you navigate to the Windows Folder. We can going to show you how GOOD LCD Test is on your Omnia 2.

Omnia 2(i8000) users can press the *#0*# and access the LCD Test Application. If it does not work on your Omnia 2, try to navigate to the LCD Test Application Folder.

LCD Test Application
Go to the Windows Folder and select the LCD Test Exe File. Pls ensure you go the Menu and set to show all files. Most file explorer do not show all files by default.

Press the RED, GREEN and BLUE buttons allowed you the check the screen for any dead pixels.
Press the CIFcam to test the front camera.
Press the Megacam to test the camera and the LED light
Press the Compass to get which direction you are at
Plus many other functions to test your Omnia

Assign different sms tones for individual contacts

Many of you would like to assign different sms tones for each of your contact or category. You will not be able to do it with the default Window Mobile Software. But there is a third party software that will help you to achieve this. 

The application is call MortRing. Many users have said the interface is not nice but it still do the job nicely. Moreover it is a freeware and you can post your question at XDA Developers if you have any queries.

Note: It may not work on some devices which has more than 500 contacts and you will just heard the default ring tone.

Bluetooth on Omnia 2

You can made use of the Widgets to access the Bluetooth Page or go to Start - Settings - Network Settings - Bluetooth. Tap on the centre of the Bluetooth Icon with your Bluetooth Name to ON/OFF the Bluetooth.

Bluetooth Connection
You need to first search for the Bluetooth Devices you are connecting to it for the first time. After the Bluetooth Device appear on your Bluetooth Page, drag a node by pressing on the bluetooth device and drag it to your centre Bluetooth Icon. A node will form between the two of them and bluetooth connection is successful.

Bluetooth Visibility
Ensure that you have check the box(Green Dot) to enable visibility to other devices. If not check, other Bluetooth devices will not be able to detect your Omnia 2 presence and hence you will not be able to connect to them. Click on Menu and Device Info to change the visibility settings.

• Transfer images, videos, files and others
• Link Bluetooth devices so it is possible to share files
• Link to a Bluetooth headset for wire free speaking
