Save Email to Storage Card

Email will easily eat up all your memory on your device memory if you keep a lot of it on your device without deleting it. Attachments can be stored on the Storage Card but no the email. You will find that you will run out of device memory sooner or later as your emails accumulate in your inbox or folders. Some users have found a way to overcome it but it may not work for some users. 

You need a Registry Editor like Resco or the free PHM Registry Editor.

Goto HLCM->system->Inbox->Settings 

Click values
menu->new value->string

You are going to create 2 new values here the first is

value name PropertyPath
value Data \Storage Card\Mail

the second will be

value name AttachPath
value data \Storage Card\Mail\Attachments

reset you phone and you should only have the Mail folder along with the attachments folder in mail folder on your storage card

NOTE some say it may create a storage card 2 folder and some issues that we have NOT yet encounter. I guess there is no harm for you to try it out to see whether it works for you.

Omnia Memory Full Error

Many Omnia users has met with Main Memory is full and therefore you are unable to use the camera or install applications or games. But many have mention, I have 8GB or 16GB internal storage and has taken up less than 50% of the storage space. Let us correct this wrong perception. Main Memory full means the Device Memory and has no relation to your My Storage or Storage Card. Main Device Memory is only 90 to 110 MB depending on your firmware. Most of Omnia Subscibers would have installed applications and games to the Device Memory. 

In addition, surfing internet also deplete your Device Memory as it need to write tempoary files onto the Device Memory. By default, Opera should cache the temposry internet files at 4MB. You can reduce this by deleting the temporary files using the Opera Browser if it is your default browser.

Tips
Every time, you are installing an application or games, you are given an option to select to install to the Device Memory, My Storage or Storage Card. It will select Device Memory if you do not do choose other locations. If the application or games file size is big, install it to My Storage or Storage Card to reduce the space taken up on the Device Memory. You will encounter Main Memory full sooner or later if you install everything to your Device.

Put all your Music files to the My Storage as this will take up the most space on your Omnia. Ensure that you have set the Pictures taken by your Camera to My Storage and not the Device Memory.
 
Monitor the main memory on your Omnia. You can go to Start - Settings - System - Memory to check how much Device Memory you have available. Try to ind out what is taking up your Device Memory if u are always going out of space.

My Storage and Storage Card
My Storage is a 8GB or 16GB internal memory card given by Samsung for your Storage purposes. 
Storage Card is a mini SD Removable Storage Card given to you.
Both of these Storage had no relation to the Device Memory but is an additional Storage space for you uasge to store applications, games, music or any other files.

 

Differences between i900 and i910

The Omnia consist of two models which is the i900 and i910. Omnia i910 is only sold in the USA while Omnia i900 is an international version. Most of Omnia users will be owning the i900 as it operates on the GSM Network which most of the countries in the World use.

Differences between i900 and i910

i900--international version, not in the US. Supports GSM and GSM 3G.
i910--CDMA version of the i900. Does not support GSM, and only supports EVDO.

Another major differences is the i900 has video calling and hence a front-facing camera while i910 does not.

There are actually not much differences in the functions of both models. The i900 comes in 8GB and 16GB , while the i910 only 8GB. THe i900 GPS is unlocked unlike the VZW version, which rumor has it that is going to change. THe i910 has visual voice mail, and Mobile IM preinstalled. The i900 does not. There are many ROM versions, supported and custom, out for the i900. The i910 has only one thus far. The i900 has Samsung Today 2 enabled out of the box while the i910 does not. It requires a cab install or a registry hack.

Samsung Omnia Unlock Solution

This Samsung Omnia Unlock Solution is provided by my subscriber in Europe whose SIM Card is lock to his network provider. It is a unlock solution for you to try if your Omnia is locked.

Unlock omnia instructions

1. Download lock.zip
2. copy .lnk to omnia
3. Open Lock.lnk
4. Write MCC/MNC , which phone have...
5. Write new NCK (12345678)
6. Press OK 
7. Run Status.lnk to check if locked
8. Run Unlock.lnk
9. Insert code (12345678)
10. Done

Assign Picture to Contact

You can assign picture to your individual Contact.

Follow the following steps to assign ring tone to contact.

• Click Start - Programs
• Click on Contacts
• Click on the contacts you want to add the picture
• Click on Menu and Edit
• Click on Picture to Select a Picture 
• Select the picture you want to add to the contact 
• Click on OK after selecting the picture 
• Click OK to save the Contact 

Change Omnia Mouse Pointer

Omnia is using the default Arrow Mouse Cursor. Samsung i780 has the option to change the Mouse Cursor but it is not available in Omnia. The only way to change the Mouse Cursor Design is by modifying the registry entry. You need a Registry Editor to change the registry entry

Go to hklm/system/state/samsung/mouse
Click on CursorShape and change the DWORD Data to a value between 0 and 24. This will change the mouse cursor design. Click on Done or Save depending on Registry Editor u using.

Disable Keypad Lock during Calls

Omnia will automatically enabled the Key Lock during call. Samsung Technical Support is unwilling to tell customer how to disable this fuction. But they have hint to Omnia Commuity on what to do and not to do in the registry. There are two methods to work around, one is in a Mortscript and another an exe file.

The registry key involved is HKLM\System\State\Touchlock .
Set to 0 -> screen enabled, set to 1 -> screen locked
Editing the registry do not help as it will automatically set to 1 after a call is connected. They have built the function in SECDialer.dll unless you hack this dll file. 
The program will set it to 1 to lock when you are making a call and set it to 0 when you press the Action Key to ulock.

Installing a MorScript File
You can install a morscript file to get around this Key Lock. The morscript will check when the phone program is running and resets the registry value to 0 after the phone program sets it to 1.
The morscript will continue to run until the next soft reset or when you power off your phone. I am not sure how this will affect the battery life on your Omnia. You may try and see whether it have an big impact on your battery life.

Using the MorScript File
1. Extract the MorScript.exe and No_screenlock.mscr to your Omina. 
2. Run the Morscript.exe
3. Run the No_screenlock.mscr

Installing a EXE File
Another way to overcome this is to install a EXE File. it will disable the screen lock every time it turns ON. You just need to extract the EXE file and put it on your Omnia. Run the EXE file and if you do not want it just delete the EXE file from your Omnia.

Assign Ringtone to Contacts

You can assign specific ring tone for each Contact so that you know who is calling. Most people will assign specific ring tone for their family and their boss at work. Follow the following steps to assign ring tone to contact.

1. Click Start - Programs
2. Click on Contacts
3. Click on the contacts you want to add the ring tone
4. Click on Menu and Edit
5. Scroll down to Ring Tone and click on it
6. Select the ring tone you like to assign
7. It will play the select ring tone
8. Click on OK

So the specific ring tone will play when that contact call you.

Click on Ring Tone to select tone.

Increase SMS Input Space

There is only one line of input space for your SMS. If you want to view more, you will need to scroll it to view more lines of your sms.It is now possible to view 3 lines of your SMS input space now. You just need to do some simple editing and you will need Total Commander which is a freeware to perform the job.

Step by Step Guide to increase SMS Input Space
1. Open Total Commander
2. Browse to your Windows Folder
3. Find the file name "threaded_sms.htm" or "thread_sms.htm"(Firmware DZIA5)
4. Click the icon at the bottom row next to the Show button

The editor will open and you will see some coding inside it. Find the below code

Change the value of the height from 35 to 70.

5. Click the Save Icon next to the Edit button at the bottom.
6. Close the Total Commander

You will now have 3 line of SMS Input for entering your SMS without the need to scroll.

How To Use The Front Camera On The Samsung Omnia

There is no programs at the moment that allowed you to utilized the front facing camera on your Omnia. It is only trigger when you are using the 3G Video Calls which will in turn use the Video Calling Applet in the Phone Program.
I have found a way for all Omnia Users to test out their Front Camera without the need to make a 3G Video Call. You can use it to test that your front camera is working or girls use it as a mirror.

Remarks: This does not work for CDMA Omnia (From Verizon, Bell, or Telus) as i910 has no front-facing camera.

Testing Front Camera Procedure

1. Launch File Explorer and navigate to \Windows folder.
2. Click on Menu and make sure "Show All Files" is ticked.
3. Find a file called GrandPrixFrontCameraTest.exe.
4. Press it and it will trigger the front camera.
5. Press the End Button to Exit.
