Device.exe Error

The device.exe error may pop up after u restart or switch on the phone for some users. This generally occurs after flashing a new ROM. Nothing is happening to the phone as it still functions. It is a pop up to inform you of the error.

Device.exe Error
This error has something associated with your SIM Card Slot. Once this error pops out, your phone function is most likely to be off. It will try to search for your SIM Card and enable the Phone Function again. If your phone functions keeps going off, you are going to get many this type of errors throughout the day. The first thing to check is that your SIM Card is OK or change another SIM Card to check whether the error still pops out.

If you have this error after flashing a new ROM, pls try to hard reset the Phone.
Go to Settings>System>Hard Reset>Clear Memory

A good tip to avoid errors after flashing is to hard reset before and after a flash.

Change Network Settings

Many users wanted to change their Omnia Network Settings from 3G to 2G. The main purpose is to save more battery as 3G Network will drain more battery than the 2G Network. Some still prefer to have 3G Network as surfing speed is faster but are for users who have data plan.

Change 3G to 2G Network
Go to Settings - Phone - More Tab - Band Selection - Get settings
Change from Auto to GSM 900/1800.

Remarks
Please take note that using a 2G Network doesn't mean your GPRS is disable. It is still active and you will need a third party program like "NODATA" to disable the GPRS.

Differences between i900 and i910

The Omnia consist of two models which is the i900 and i910. Omnia i910 is only sold in the USA while Omnia i900 is an international version. Most of Omnia users will be owning the i900 as it operates on the GSM Network which most of the countries in the World use.

Differences between i900 and i910

i900--international version, not in the US. Supports GSM and GSM 3G.
i910--CDMA version of the i900. Does not support GSM, and only supports EVDO.

Another major differences is the i900 has video calling and hence a front-facing camera while i910 does not.

There are actually not much differences in the functions of both models. The i900 comes in 8GB and 16GB , while the i910 only 8GB. THe i900 GPS is unlocked unlike the VZW version, which rumor has it that is going to change. THe i910 has visual voice mail, and Mobile IM preinstalled. The i900 does not. There are many ROM versions, supported and custom, out for the i900. The i910 has only one thus far. The i900 has Samsung Today 2 enabled out of the box while the i910 does not. It requires a cab install or a registry hack.

Omnia Support HSDPA

HSDPA stands for High speed downlink packet access and refers to mobile broadband technology that allows you to download data to compatible mobile devices at speeds of up to 14.4 Megabits per second (Mbps).

The Omnia supports 2 type of HSDPA Network which is the 3G Network HSDPA 2100 and HSDPA 850. Most of the countries like Singapore and Asia use the HSDPA 2100 network. The other is HSDPA 850 for the USA and South American countries.

  

3G Network Availability

Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) is one of the third-generation 3G mobile telecommunications technologies. In Singapore, UMTS operators like Singtel, M1 and Starhub use the 850 MHz and/or 1900 MHz bands for their 3G Network. Upload and download of data are quite fast using this 3G Network.
 

UMTS bands are 2100 for Europe, 850/1900 for AT&T in the US and 1700/2100 for T-Mobile in the US. Quad Band UMTS would be 850/1700/1900/2100.

Some Omnia USA user have ask why two different UMTS band? 
The most common answer was that AT&T does not want customers to jump over to T-Mobile. This maybe the main reason why they use competely different brand. 
But in my country, Singapore every mobile operator use the same frequency band as requires by the authority. This is to ensure that the mobile subscribers can switch between networks with ease.

You can use the following website to check which countries use 3G network with GSM 850/1900 or GSM 900/1800. It also show whether 3G network is available in which countries.

Network Available on Omnia
You can check what Frequency Band you have on your Omnia.
Enter the code *#2263# on your dial pad.
It should bring up a list of available frequency band for your Omnia. 

The specific frequency bands originally defined by the UMTS standard are 1885–2025 MHz for the mobile-to-base (uplink) and 2110–2200 MHz for the base-to-mobile (downlink). In the US, 1710–1755 MHz and 2110–2155 MHz will be used instead, as the 1900 MHz band was already utilized. While UMTS2100 is the most widely-deployed UMTS band, some countries' UMTS operators use the 850 MHz and/or 1900 MHz bands (independently, meaning uplink and downlink are within the same band), notably in the US by AT&T Mobility, in Singapore by Singtel and in Australia by Telstra.

For existing GSM operators, it is a simple but costly migration path to UMTS: much of the infrastructure is shared with GSM, but the cost of obtaining new spectrum licenses and overlaying UMTS at existing towers is high.
