MapKing Settings for Omnia

I am using MapKing 2007 for my Samsung Omnia and using maps for Singapore, West and East Malaysia. Maps are also available for other cities and countries.
I have included the link to download MapKing 2007 software and maps.
MapKing 2007 Software and Maps>>>

1. Install the MapKing 2007 Software.

2. Copy the map which have the extension. m7a to My Storage or Storage Card
The Maps can be installed anywhere on your Omnia as the Software will be able to locate it.

3. Download the Free Port Splitter Version 1.1 by clicking here>>>

4. Go to Start - Setting - System - External GPS 
Program - set GPS Program port to COM8
Hardware - COM9 / Baud rate - 4800
Access - Remain checked

5. Go to Start - Setting - System - Enchance GPS
XTRA Enable - Enable
Auto download - Disable
Click on XTRA Data Download. This will ensure you get a GPS Fix faster but data charges apply. Ensure you have subscribe to a data plan.

6. After installating Port Splitter to Samsung Omnia, activate it and set the setting accordingly.
Input - COM8 (type it if does not appear in drop down box)
Set the Baud rate to 4800
Output - COM6 (Press Add and Start the Splitter)
Remember not to EXIT Port Splitter Program!

7.Open MapKing Program
Go to Tools - GPS/Track - By User (COM6 / Baudrate 4800)

Click on OK.

Ensure that the Port Splitter Program is still running so that the GPS can work. Click on the MAP to open up the program. Click on the GPS Status and if you see no fix on the top left, it means still locating your position. Go to a open location and you can get a GPS fix faster(takes 1 to 3 minutes).

Checking GPS Fixed
You can checked whether you have got the GPS Fixed by clicking on the GPS Icon on the bottom far right. Navigation will start and press anywhere on map and it bring you to another screen. Press GPS Status. A TICK in the State will show your GPS Position has been fixed.

Enable GPS faster without XTRA

There is a way in which you can enable the GPS without having the phone services switched on but it involves a modification to the registry on the phone. I would recommend using PHM RegEdit as it is one of the easiest to use.

Please follow the following steps that seem to help improve the time to get a GPS fix, without need to download XTRA data:
1. Go to Settings > System > Enhanced GPS and set both settings to "Disable"
2. Go to your device's registry, and see the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\

CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver
3. Change the following string values to nothing (don't delete them, just edit them and clear the value):
CurrentLogFile (originally \GPSID_log.txt)
OldLogFile (originally \GPSID_log.bak)
4. Soft-reset your device
5. With File Explorer, go to My Device, and delete the two GPSID_log files you see, and the file named xtra. If you don't soft-reset, you will not be able to delete some of them.
6. Check again the registry setting. Sometimes in rare cases it may revert the settings back - but that's a general WM problem.

If you have a data plan, I recommend you to use the XTRA downloads. You will not need to disturb the registry area of your Window Mobile Phone.

GPS fixing for NavFone

Many Omnia users complaint that they are unable to get the GPS signal. I will show you how I managed to get my GPS signal in less than 5mins using the NavFone.
First of all we need to use the Enhanced GPS. Go to
Menu > Settings > System < Enhanced GPS

Enable the XTRA and manually download the XTRA Data. After download is complete, you may go to NavFone. Click on Navigation and it will attempt to fix GPS. It should take less than 3 mins if u are at a open space. Pls take note that other factors such as clouds, buildings around you and others might affect the satellite from locating you.
